FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to know how to swim to go sailing?

Not at all. Our sailboats are specially designed for safety. They cannot tip over or sink. On a very windy day you might get wet though. It's a good idea to bring a waterproof jacket and/or a change of clothes. Your feet might get wet too so wear some old shoes or some water shoes.

Do I need my own lifejacket?

No, AQVA has a large selection of lifejackets to choose from. But if you plan to sail frequently, you might want to consider purchasing your own lifejacket which fits you comfortably.

What should I bring with me?

The following items are suggested:

• Hat
• Sunglasses
• Water bottle
• Special cushion (if desired, though we have many at our facility)
• Sun screen
• Foul weather gear (if you have your own)
• Personal PFD (life jacket)
• Waterproof footwear
• Sailing gloves

What if it's raining the day I'm supposed to go sailing?

Sailors aren't afraid of water! As long as there is wind we will sail! However we will not sail if there is a risk of thunderstorms. In this case we will call you to cancel your sail and schedule a new one. If you aren't sure, call the office at 514-694-8021. Please note that the weather at the Club is often quite different than in the city. If it is raining downtown the sun may be shining in Pointe Claire.

Are there accessible washrooms available?

Yes. There is a fully accessible washroom right next to the AQVA office, as well as disabled stalls in both the men's and ladies' locker rooms. We do not however have personal attendants available. If you need assistance for toileting you will have to bring someone with you.

Can I get something to eat and drink there?

There are a restaurant and bar at Pointe Claire Yacht Club but they are only for the use of yacht club members. There are however several restaurants in nearby Pointe Claire village.
