Recreation
For people who wish to experience some time on the water but are not necessarily interested in learning to sail themselves. The sailor can choose to actively participate in steering or adjusting the sails, or can let the instructor do all the sailing.
Learn to Sail
AQVA offers a certified learn-to-sail program that covers the first 3 levels of the Canadian Yachting Association (CYA) certification. Sailors who wish to do a little more with their sailing can participate in either a group instructions course or individual sails covering the basics of sailing theory. From points of sail, tacking, rigging, and seamanship, to tying knots, learning boat parts and much more, our instructors will help you develop and expand upon your sailing abilities.
Learn to Sail will give you the opportunity to learn the basics of sailing and demonstrate these skills on the water. Once a sailor has successfully completed our Learn to Sail program they will be eligible to participate in our more advanced Learn to Race program.
Racing
If you have already experienced the thrill of racing and are looking to hone your skills, then take advantage of group drills and practice races led by experienced racers and coaches. From starts, to mark rounding, tactics and more, we will help you perfect your skills to get you ready for the racing season.
New to the world of Racing?
If you are interested in taking your sailing to the next level, but aren't quite sure how, this is your opportunity! You will get more comfortable sailing in groups and with your friends. You will experience first hand the ecstasy of racing and take your skills to the competitive level. Participants must have successfully completed our Learn to sail program to be eligible to sign up to join the Learn to Race program.
Racing training takes place on Tuesday and Thursday evenings, as well as Saturday mornings at Pointe Claire Yacht Club. AQVA organizes their own Coupe du Québec regatta at the end of July and participates in regattas organized by other disabled sailing associations in the Northeast (for example in Ontario and the U.S.)
Group Sails
AQVA also offers the possibilities for groups to come sailing. Click here for more information.
