Volunteers

hoist
AQVA is always looking for new volunteers. One of the most enjoyable ways of volunteering is by being a sailing companion and spending an hour or more on the water with one of our sailors. Our staff ensures that there is a good match between the sailor's and companion's sailing abilities as well as languages spoken

Transfer volunteers play an essential role in our program, since as many as four people can be required to safely transfer a severely disabled sailor from their wheelchair into the boat and back. AQVA provides training to all transfer volunteers. No lifting or physical effort is required – just pushing the button on the remote control for the electric lift!

Racing volunteers assist sailors on race nights. Our more serious racers, who participate in regattas in Eastern Canada and the Northeastern U.S., would greatly benefit from some coaching. Saturday mornings have been set aside specifically for racing theory and on-water sessions.

Of course we really appreciate people to help with boat repairs and maintenance. The boats are being sailed seven days a week so something always needs to be done.

This year the Coupe du Québec will be held July 30-31. Volunteers are needed on shore and on the dock to help with registration, meals, transfers, "wheelchair parking", boat launching and haul-out and sometimes even guide dog sitting. For those who would prefer to be on the water there's always a need for sailing companions as well as spectator boats.
